I believe when we have sinned, we surely have asked ourselves this question of whether Allah would forgive us especially if it is a sin which we repeatedly committed despite time and time again asking Allah for forgiveness.
As humans, we are full of faults. We have many sins which we are ashamed off, even after we said we believe in Islam, I believe many of us have broken many rules of Islam and followed or fall into the whispers of the devil and even to our nafs. So with all the things that we had done, do we have hope that Allah will forgive us? How will we know?Frankly we can’t but we can have hope… hope which comes after repenting from what we had done.
I am one person who always seems to be unable to totally get rid of my sins…and yet ….. yet everyday as I repented I always pray to Allah to never give up hope on me. I cling on the hope that no matter how bad I am, Allah will still forgive me and still willing to shower mercy and guidance on me.
Today, I read an article on hope and Masya-Allah, the article make the hope in me bloom bigger and I want to cling to that feeling ….. forever.
I thanked Allah for creating “Hope” in our lives. To me “Hope” is the next best thing that should bloom in us besides Love.
Afterall, Allah, Himself had said to us in the Quran, to always “Call out to Him, pray to Him and ask from Him”.
As recorded by At-Tirmizi in a hadith that said,
“Allah the Almighty has said: ‘O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me, and hope in Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds in the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I shall forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with an earthful of sins and were you then to face Me, without having associated anything with Me, I shall grant you an earthful of pardon.’”
So I believe that we should never despair that our sins will not be forgiven, for as long as we are sincere in our repentance, insya’Allah, we have hope of gaining His Mercy.
In the article that I read, the author quote about how heart is like a bird, love as its head, and its two wings are fear and hope.
This quote truly depicts what should be residing inside our heart. Love for Allah, fear for His Punishment and hope for His Mercy.
Khalas!

Hope is certainly the main essence of life. If there is no hope left, then there isnt anything left.
I, to be honest, am passing through a difficult stage and hope is all which is keeping me alive and moving ahead.
So, Yeah, I do thank Allah for creating a thing as hope, as a famous saying goes – Ummed par duniya khayam hai.

As-salaamu’alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,
I see we are reading the same things again!.. subhan’Allah.
Excellent post.
Allah likes it when we repent to Him. And the beloved Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa-salaam) said, “The one who repents of a sin is as he who has not sinned.”
We must however.. keep both Hope and Fear balanced. Just like the bird description you gave. A bird can’t fly with one wing (ie: if you only have hope). Because Allah has said: ” By My might and majesty, I shall no unite two safeties or two fears in My servant. If he feels secure from Me in this world I shall make him fear on the day I resurrect My servants, but if he fears Me in the world I shall make him secure on the day I gather them together.”
Beware of either despairing of God’s mercy or feeling secure from His deception, for both are among the major sins. They only despair of the mercy of their Lord who are astray, and they only feel secure from the deception of God who are the people of perdition.
Jazaki’Allahu khair for sharing.
Sorry for the long post.. I could keep going, but somethings I just had to share.. since I was reading the same topic.
May Allah The Majestic forgive us for our sins, and guide us to do only that which pleases Him. Ameen.
Wa’alaykum as-salaam
Lots of Love

It is Allah who we should always fear, put your hope and trust in him with whatever you do… its a shame there are many of us muslims who fail to understand the quran.. and get stuck in the wonders of this world…. I speak on behalf of myself and many others… but Allah is the true judge.. may he be merciful.. but surely allah loves those who continually repent and intentionally want to improve…. Fear is the key to paradise Inshallah
